The Lord's Final Judgment and the New Creation

Isaiah 66:1-24
1Thus says the LORD: Heaven is my throne, and the land is the footstool of my feet. Where is this house that you will build for me, and where is this place of my rest? 2All these my hand made, and all these came to be—the utterance of the LORD. Yet to this one I will look: the afflicted and crippled in spirit and trembling at my word. 3One who slaughters the cattle strikes a man; one who sacrifices the sheep breaks the neck of a dog; one who offers the blood of swine remembers frankincense and blesses evil. They also chose their ways, and their soul delighted in their abominations. 4So I also will choose their caprice, and I will bring their fear upon them, because I called and no one answered, I spoke and they did not hear, and they did what was bad in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in. 5Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word. Your brothers who hate you and put you away have said, Because of my name the LORD will be honored, and we will see your joy, and they will be ashamed. 6A voice of roaring from the city, a voice from the temple—the voice of the LORD repaying his enemies. 7Before she was in labor she gave birth; before pain came to her she delivered a male. 8Who has heard anything like this? Who has seen anything like these? Shall a land be brought forth in one day? Shall a nation be born at one stroke? For as soon as Zion was in labor she also brought forth her sons. 9Shall I bring to the point of birth and not cause delivery? says the LORD. Shall I, the one who brings to birth, then restrain? says your God. 10Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad in her, all you who love her. Rejoice with her in rejoicing, all you who mourn over her. 11So that you may nurse and be satisfied from the breast of her consolation, so that you may drink deeply and delight yourselves from the abundance of her glory. 12For thus says the LORD: Behold, I am extending peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing torrent, and you shall nurse; you shall be carried on the side and dandled on the knees. 13As a man whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you, and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. 14You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice; your bones shall flourish like the grass, and the hand of the LORD shall be known with his servants, and his indignation with his enemies. 15For behold, the LORD comes in fire, and his chariots like the whirlwind, to return his anger in fury and his rebuke with flames of fire. 16For by fire the LORD will execute judgment, and by his sword with all flesh, and those slain by the LORD shall be many. 17Those who consecrate and purify themselves to the gardens, following after one in the midst, eating swine's flesh and the detestable thing and the mouse, shall come to an end together, declares the LORD. 18For I know their deeds and their plots, and I am coming to gather all the nations and the tongues, and they shall come and see my glory. 19I will set a sign among them, and from them I will send survivors to the nations—to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands far away, that have not heard my report or seen my glory; and they shall tell my glory among the nations. 20They shall bring all your brothers from all the nations as an offering to the LORD—on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules, and on dromedaries—to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the LORD, just as the sons of Israel bring the offering in a pure vessel to the house of the LORD. 21And I will also take some of them for priests and for Levites, says the LORD. 22For as the new heavens and the new land that I am making will stand before me, declares the LORD, so your seed and your name will stand. 23From new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to bow down before me, says the LORD. 24They shall go out and look on the corpses of the men who have transgressed against me, for their worm shall not die and their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.
